Growing up in the historic, coastline village of Mystic, Connecticut, Karen found herself surrounded by premier examples of contemporary art from a young age. Her earliest public exhibitions took place as a youth at two esteemed Connecticut galleries: the Mystic Art Association and Lyme Art Association.
Her first winning painting entry was an acrylic in the Youth division at a Niantic, Connecticut fine art show. During her college years she continued to draw, paint and photograph her inspirations, but it would be five years after graduation until she decided to take the plunge into art shows once again. In 2009, Karen entered her photography in a show for the first time, a decision that was rewarded with winnings for two of her photography entries at the Champlain Valley Fair Art Exposition in Essex, Vermont: Fair Parade Percherons and Dragonfly Trio received 3rd place and Honorable Mention awards respectively. Her painted model horses have earned numerous championships in the Northeast and have gone on to be recognized with some of the hobby’s highest awards at the North American Nationals in 2012 and 2013.
The artist currently resides in Winooski, Vermont with her two precocious house rabbits, Squirrel and Solstice.
